Inoue Wins Close Decision, Retains Undisputed Status
Inoue 10-9 Nery - Inoue 38-36 Nery
Intrigue in the Fight
In a highly anticipated bout, undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue retained his titles with a close decision victory over Juan Carlos Nery. The fight took place May 6 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.
Inoue started the fight strongly, outlanding Nery in the first round by a margin of 21-4 according to CompuBox. However, Nery fought back in the later rounds, and the fight went down to the wire.
Inoue ultimately won by a majority decision, with the judges scoring the fight 116-112, 115-113, and 114-114 in his favor.
The victory is Inoue's 28th in a row, and it solidified his status as one of the best boxers in the world. Nery gave Inoue a tough test, but Inoue's speed, power, and discipline were too much for him in the end.
Nery can crack so there was definitely intrigue in this fight but I think Inoue will be too disciplined to not slip up and KO him mid fight.
